LAUNCHED IN 2007 AS A BIENNIAL FESTIVAL of original art and events, the Manchester International Festival is back this year from 2-19 July with another exciting slice of performing arts, visual arts, music and popular culture. It draws artists from all over the world, but the festival will also have a very Mancunian feel. So while visitors can enjoy classical music in Zaha Hadid’s incredible Bach concert chamber (pictured) or watch Kraftwerk and Steve Reich at the futuristic velodrome, they’ll also be able to see local stars Elbow playing with the city’s Hallé symphony orchestra, or visit True Faith, ‘a celebration of Manchester-made talent’. Many events are free and the festival practically takes over the city for most of July. If you’re in town be sure to sample a taste of modern Manchester. www.mif.co.uk
