DESTINATION ROUNDUP

The guides on the next few pages will tell you what’s on across all the VLM Airlines destinations, but here are a few of our favourites at a glance.

GRONINGEN

Both the Groninger Museum and the Drents Museum (Assen) are dedicated to Chinese art this year. The project Go China! Assen – Groningen goes beyond the familiar images of terracotta warriors (on show in Assen) to include spectacular exhibitions of avant-garde and contemporary art (on show in Groningen) that offer a glimpse of the country’s current vibrancy.

AMSTERDAM

Today, Afghanistan is generally considered a place of war, drugs and extremism, but it was once a wealthy crossroads of ancient civilisations on the trade routes between east and west. Some 250 of the country’s riches are on show at the Hidden Afghanistan exhibition at Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Kerk.

ANTWERP

In the heart of the fashion district, one of Antwerp’s newest boutiques, Yohji Yamamoto’s store, brings the designer’s distinctive combination of Japanese minimalism and French élan to town for both men and women. Beautifully refined, his flagship corner store simply oozes class.

LONDON

The Royal Academy’s From Russia exhibition represents the first time that art from Moscow and St Petersburg’s largest galleries have been brought together and displayed in one place, offering a unique opportunity to explore the paintings.

BRUSSELS

Between the 12th and 16th-centuries, illuminators, painters, sculptors, goldsmiths and musicians, all from a region not yet known as Wallonia, helped to mould a culture whose influence extended throughout Europe. BOZAR taps into the period, using more than 140 works to present an outstanding picture of the region.

ROTTERDAM

Grinning, wistful, pensive or just plain chubby, the latest exhibition at the Photo Museum gathers together a huge range of baby photography from the past couple of hundred years. We’ve all got our own baby pictures at home, but, the exhibition asks, why are we so fascinated by these images of our infant selves?

LUXEMBOURG

Every imaginable form of jazz will be on show at the Printemps Musical in Luxembourg, including the family-friendly Tiger Dixie Band and their energetic exploration of the Disney films.
